Chris Chan
Director of Council Communications
Chris is Director of Council Communications for the Office of the Council President. He is tasked with informing the public about matters of the City Council to increase transparency and access to city government. His duties include media relations, running press conferences, planning events, and writing the The People’s Business blog, a regular preview of City Council meetings sent to subscribers and social media.
Before working at the City of San Diego, Chris was a television reporter and producer for over two decades at NBC 7, CNBC Asia, and TV stations in Hong Kong. As a journalist, he covered stories including Muslim rebel camps in the Philippines, UN Peacekeeping in East Timor, Taiwan Presidential elections, wildfires, earthquakes, and more.
Chris earned a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern California and a Master’s Degree from Washington State University. He spends his spare time playing music and traveling with his wife and two children.
