Project Background

The Mission Bay South Shores General Development Plan (GDP) project is designed to update the GDP for the existing park in Mission Bay. The objective of the GDP is to define the best uses for the developed and undeveloped areas of South Shores Park through community outreach. Scope of Work

This project will update the GDP for Mission Bay South Shores Park and includes workshops and presentations for public input on the park's amenities and approval through the GDP amendment process.

The vision for South Shores Park is to integrate recreational facilities across the 145-acre site while protecting environmentally sensitive areas and maintaining scenic viewpoints.

GDP improvements may include:

  • Multipurpose sports fields (baseball, soccer, football and field sports) and sports courts (basketball, tennis and pickleball).
  • Passive-use natural turf area.
  • Sports field, pedestrian and security lighting.
  • Children's playgrounds.
  • Outdoor fitness stations.
  • Shade structures.
  • Dog park.
  • Comfort stations.
  • Paved bike and walking paths.
  • Natural decomposed granite trails.
  • Habitat areas.
  • Irrigated landscape areas.
  • Boat and water access.
  • Boat and ski club building.
  • Model plane/drone landing strip (Silent Flyers).
  • Secondary vehicular and pedestrian entrances.
  • Additional parking.
  • Accessibility upgrades.

Project Schedule

  • Community workshop process: Fall 2023 to Summer 2026.
  • Anticipated GDP completion: Fall 2026.
