As the 30th library in the City of San Diego, the Rancho Peñasquitos Branch Library opened in 1992, replacing a much smaller temporary facility built in the early 1980s. Library supporters advocated for a larger building to serve this rapidly growing community. The current 20,650-square-foot library features an open layout with plenty of desks, study spaces, an outdoor courtyard, and a large indoor children's area. Students and youth comprise a large percentage of library users, giving the Rancho Peñasquitos Library one of the highest circulation patterns of all 36 City libraries.
