As part of the City Heights Initiative, a public/private partnership between the city and Price Charities, the two-story library building and neighboring park opened in November 1998. The City Heights/Weingart Branch Library serves one of the most culturally diverse neighborhoods in San Diego and is the busiest city library for public computer usage. Connected to the library is the City Heights Performance Annex, a black box theatre that offers a variety of dance and music performances, along with lessons for adults and children. The Performance Annex is the only theatre that the city owns and operates.
