Recovery Assistance

Are you a City of San Diego resident or business impacted by the Jan. 22, 2024 storm? Services and resources are now available through the links below.

SBA Assistance

The U.S. Small Business Administration is providing assistance to businesses affected by the Jan. 22 storm through the SBA Disaster Loan Outreach Center at the Mountain View Community Center. SBA representatives will assist affected businesses by answering questions, explaining the application process and helping businesses apply for low-interest disaster loans.

Small businesses and nonprofits will have until Nov. 19, 2024, to apply for an economic injury disaster loan. Applicants can call SBA's Customer Service Center at 800-659-2955 or email disastercustomerservice@sba.gov for more information on SBA disaster assistance.


FEMA Assistance

April 19, 2024, was the last day for residents impacted by the Jan. 22 storm to apply for federal disaster assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). While the deadline has passed, anyone who has previously applied and is currently in the appeal process will not see a status change.

Following Jan. 22, Mayor Todd Gloria worked with Governor Gavin Newsome and Vice President Kamala Harris to secure a Major Disaster Declaration, so San Diegans impacted by the storm could receive direct financial assistance.


IRS Tax Relief

Tax filing and payment deadlines extended to June 17, 2024 for individuals and businesses affected by severe storms.

Access information on how to secure your finances after a disaster, including protecting your credit and finances, dealing with property damage, housing issues, paying bills, and asking for help from banks, credit card companies, and other lenders.

Information on how to hire a contractor for repairing or rebuilding, verifying a contractor license, and tips to avoid being scammed.

County Assessor Recorder Clerk - Office of the Assessor

The County of San Diego can temporarily reduce the assessed value of a property that was damaged or destroyed by misfortune or calamity and through no fault of the property owner.

The County of San Diego can help residents get copies of vital records and certificates lost in the storms.

Debris Assistance Program

The City of San Diego’s Environmental Services Department is helping to make construction and demolition debris recycling safer, easier and faster for residents and businesses recovering from the recent storm.

Department of Motor Vehicles

The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) can respond to questions and provide the forms needed to assist individuals in replacing DMV documents, such as driver licenses, identification cards, vehicle cards certificates and certificates of title, that were lost as a result of the disaster.

Assistance with unemployment and disability programs; as well as work search and training.

Flooded Home Clean Up Guidance

Information on how to safely clean your flooded home, including, hazards, tools, and step-by-steps instructions.

Household Hazardous Waste Removal

If you are located in a flood-impacted area and have Household Hazardous Waste in need of proper disposal, you can call the City or use Get It Done to make an appointment to either drop off the materials at the Household Hazardous Waste Transfer Facility, or to be contacted for door-to-door service.

Jackie Robinson Family YMCA

The Jackie Robinson Family YMCA is offering the use of showers and mental health support for members of the community affected by the storm and flooding. They are located at: 151 YMCA Way, San Diego, CA 92102.

Legal Aid Society of San Diego

Legal guidance and assistance to individuals and families affected by flooding.

Locate Vehicle

To help return the streets and public property to pre-storm conditions, vehicles may be towed/impounded in order to complete street repairs, cleaning, debris removal and other necessities. Towing, impounding and storage fees for flood-related impounds will be waived by the City for up to 30 days.

MTS

Complimentary transit passes may be available for those who lost use of their vehicle or live in areas impacted by the storms. Call customer service for information about reduced fare options and trip planning.

National Flood Insurance

Apply for flood insurance to provide coverage against future flood damage.

Information about replacing a lost or damaged passport.

Registrar of Voters

View voting options and additional information about elections.

Replace Trash Container

The City's Environmental Services Department will deliver new black, blue and green containers at no cost in the impacted areas to those residents whose bins were either lost or damaged because of the storm.

Salvation Army

Provides clothing, socks, underwear and hygiene products.

Resources for older adults including transportation, housing, food, and others.

San Diego Flooding Home Cleanup Hotline

Call the San Diego Flood Cleanup Hotline to get connected with general clean-up resources from the flood and winter storms. The hotline will be open until February 23, 2024, unless otherwise noted.

San Diego Food Bank

Shelf-stable food items with occasional fresh produce, dairy items, and frozen meat.

San Diego Gas and Electric

Electricity service assistance, enroll in payment or other discount programs.

San Diego Humane Society

Services for all things related to pet care, including assistance pet food, supplies, veterinary care, temporary boarding or foster care.

SD County Dept. of Environmental Health Quality

Information on protecting yourself from environmental hazards.

SD County Public Works

The County will assist with debris removal for residents in living in unincorporated areas.

Sharia's Closet

Emergency clothing and hygiene products for individuals and families who are experiencing financial hardship or crisis. Individuals must submit an emergency clothing request form through their website.

Small Business Emergency Grant

Emergency relief grants for businesses up to $2,500 per applicant, with a 100% bonus (for a total of $5,000) for applicants located in the Promise Zone, Opportunity Zones, or Low-Moderate Income Census Tracts. Deadline to apply is Tuesday, Feb. 27, 5 p.m.

Social Security Administration

Replace a lost or damaged Social Security card.

State Representatives

The San Diego Access & Crisis Line

The San Diego Access & Crisis Line serves as the local crisis call center and is operated 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Confidential and free of charge, this line offers crisis support and helps facilitate connections to behavioral health resources for you or your loved one.

US Postal Service

Have mail held at your local post office if your home is not serviceable or you cannot receive mail at your mailing address.

Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD)
