Southeastern San Diego Youth Climate Resiliency Taskforce
Together with The Climate Initiative, San Diego Public Library has developed a climate justice taskforce for teens with the aim to educate, empower and activate youth for climate action. These teens will be awarded a scholarship for their commitment and time.
This group will be learning about climate change impacts directly affecting the southeastern San Diego region and will develop and lead a community-based action project to create a more sustainable San Diego.
Climate Action: The Power of Art and Storytelling Exhibit
This exhibit is a culmination of the task force's collective experiences, gained wisdom, and hopes. The exhibit utilizes art as a storytelling tool to promote awareness and advocacy, their hope is for up-and-coming communities to learn more about climate change and its impact on their communities. They encourage their fellow community members to TAKE ACTION NOW: to be inspired to learn more, make intentional choices, and become community advocates. Through collective empowerment, they believe we can create a truly equitable and sustainable San Diego for all! This exhibit is on display at select San Diego Public Library locations throughout summer 2023.
Good Natured: Art and the Environment
Central Library | Central Art Gallery | 330 Park Blvd. | May 13 - July 29, 2023
The laws of Nature are not separate from us. They are not a mysterious other; distant and intangible. At a time when vast amounts of scientific data are sounding the alarms of our current poly-crisis (ecology, economy, energy, and equity), our collective experiences implore us to reconsider our environmental impact and the need for reciprocity. Good Natured challenges us to act in this contingent world and ponders the question what it is to be both the problem and the solution. To learn more, visit here.
Climate Change through the Lens of Art + Science
May 30, 2023 | 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
Central Library | Shiley Suite | 330 Park Blvd.
In celebration of the Central Library's newest exhibition Good Natured, we are partnering with Wildcoast.org in hosting a special panel discussion titled Climate Change through the Lens of Art + Science that invites local scientists as well as artist featured in the exhibition to exchange ideas and opinions on the ways the arts will have a very important role in finding solutions to address our current poly-crisis (ecology, economy, energy, equity).
