Municipal Tideland Leases
(also known as "Public Trust Lands")
The purpose of the Municipal Tideland Leases was to regulate, as well as control granted lands under the jurisdiction of the trustees, the "City of San Diego" and was typically utilized for the "California’s Sovereign Lands" under "Navigable Waters Lands for Commerce, Navigation and Fisheries."
The City Clerk Archives documented a total of almost 670 companies that leased properties from the City of San Diego, legally and historically spanning from the 1800s to 1960s. The Municipal Tideland Leases project allows public access as well as preservation in digitizing the documentation in the leasing of these coastal shoreline areas in the City of San Diego, granting access for public use.
