A copy of your California P.O.S.T. Approved law enforcement academy certificate and basic POST certificate must be included with your application. All candidates will be screened. Depending on your overall qualifications, including your law enforcement experience and training, a comprehensive background investigation will be initiated which will include a series of interviews, a physical abilities test, psychological test and a medical examination. Candidates who are hired, must complete a specific training program and up to four (4) months of field training with a field training officer.

Written Test Waiver

Candidates who meet either one of the following conditions may request a waiver of the written test by submitting a special waiver application, provided the examination is open.

1. Graduation from a California P.O.S.T. approved Police Academy with a Basic Peace Officers course certificate or possession of a basic P.O.S.T. certificate. A copy of the certificate must be attached to the application.
2. Have previously passed either the prior police recruit written test or have passed the current written test and expired from the eligible list. A copy of your police recruit notice of qualification / test results must be attached to the application.
