Miramar Landfill Bus Tours

Join us for a free two-hour bus tour that will give you a behind-the-scenes look at what happens when you dispose of waste and clear up the mystery of “throwing something away.” Each tour is available to City of San Diego residents ONLY. Our partner, I Love A Clean San Diego, will explain the City of San Diego’s goal to reach zero waste by 2040 and how your daily actions impact the Miramar Landfill. You will not only learn about the importance of zero waste, but also be given the tools to get there. Other tour highlights include the Allan Company Recycling Facility, the Miramar Greenery and the Household Hazardous Waste Transfer Facility. View upcoming tour dates, and register.

Join our partner, I Love A Clean San Diego, Wednesday morning for a FREE clothing swap at the Mission Village Christian Fellowship (2650 Melbourne Dr San Diego, CA 92123) on Wednesday, May 29 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Join I Love A Clean San Diego in making fashion circular, by trading your clothes, accessories, and shoes. No registration is required, and walk-ins are welcome. Please bring up to a grocery bag full of donations that are lightly used with no rips, stains or odors. Join our partner, I Love A Clean San Diego, for a workshop titled “To Buy or Not To Buy: The Dos and Don’ts of Sustainable Fashion” at the Point Loma Library on Saturday, June 1, at 10:30 AM to learn how to make your closet more sustainable! They will have a Swap and Shop booth open for anyone who wants to browse through or donate secondhand clothes, accessories, and other household items! Please ensure all donations are gently-used with no stains, rips or odors. No donation is required to take items from the Swap. Trash Truck Storytime: Oak Park Library

The Environmental Services Department (ESD) is pleased to partner with the San Diego Public Library for the Trash Truck Storytime Program. This in-person event at the Oak Park Library (2802 54th St, San Diego, CA 92105) allows families to enjoy a storytime provided by the library, see a trash truck demonstration, meet a Collections Sanitation Driver and have a photo op in the truck. An ESD representative will be on site with educational materials and to answer questions about recycling, organic waste recycling and trash.
