Vision Zero

SAFE ROADS FOR ALL MODES

Zero Traffic Related Fatalities and Severe Injuries

Making our streets and sidewalks safer where we live, work and play.

Safety is the City’s paramount concern regarding mobility, and the work to create safer roads for all users – especially the most vulnerable – is constant.

Improving road safety involves enhancing separation and visibility, reducing user speeds through thoughtful road design and environmental modifications, implementing systemic safety measures that account for human error and injury tolerance, and minimizing conflicts at intersections.

San Diegans' roads will be a safer place for all to travel.

San Diego has been a leader in identifying systemic safety as a key element of our Vision Zero efforts.

This is in alignment with the Federal Government's National Road Safety Strategy.

Additionally, we also take on specific locations with high crash histories.

Follow each year's budget for projects that contribute to Vision Zero in each Fiscal Year's Capital Improvement Projects (Transportation) section.

Project locations are available on the Capital Improvement Program Project Map Viewer.

We know safety is a long-term effort and everyday we are working toward making San Diego safer, no matter how you travel in the City.
