Emergency Excavation Notification
Providing this Emergency Excavation form satisfies Muni Code 62.1211 notification requirement. The code requires if any person or public utility takes any action to excavate the public right-of-way, such person shall notify the City of San Diego before the excavation. After the minimum efforts to restore essential services and no later than fourteen business days, apply for a Public Right-of-Way Permit under Section 129.0702.
The application below is for emergency situations that require immediate attention to restore services. The Resident Engineer (RE) of the area will reach out to the agency contact person to learn more about the emergency and the status of the work. Please provide all the information requested by the RE. The emergency notification process shall not be used for planned work or to enhance services.
The applicant for a Public Right-of-Way Permit under Section 129.0702 shall submit a written statement detailing the emergency action, describe the excavation performed, and identify any work remaining to be completed. A Public Right-of-Way Permit under Section 129.0702 shall not be valid until a final inspection of the excavation is conducted and approved by the City.
