Designing Your Project for Compliance
The following design references will help you succeed in designing your project for compliance with the Permanent BMP requirements found in the Storm Water Standards.
Designing a Low-Impact Development Project
- Appendix I of the Storm Water Standards (Page 110) - a step-by-step Low Impact Development Design Guide from the Model SUSMP.
- County of San Diego Low-Impact Development Handbook - Additional guidance from the County.
- Low Impact Development Manual for Southern California - Additional guidance from the California Stormwater Quality Association (CASQA).
- Green Streets Municipal Handbook - a publication from USEPA with additional guidance on Low-Impact Development Strategies for streets.
Determining Treatment Control BMP Performance Efficiency
The Storm Water Standards requires that the pollutant removal efficiency be rated at Medium or higher for the project's most significant pollutants of concern. In addition to guidance in Chapter 4 of the Storm Water Standards (Page 27), the following references are available:
- Proprietary Treatment Control BMP Evaluation and Selection Guidance Manual (Currently Unavailable - Coming Soon)
- Technology Assessment Protocol - Ecology (TAPE) - a reputable testing program by the Washington State Department of Ecology.
- The New Jersey Corporation for Advanced Technology (NJCAT) - Maintains a reputable testing program.
