Transparency, trust, and accountability are cornerstones of public service, and City Attorney Elliott proposed a sweeping ethics reform agenda in 2023 to ensure the city lives up to its responsibilities to city residents. In March, she reiterated her support for the creation of a Transparency Office with a dedicated and expanded team to centralize and oversee public records requests. The current system, which spreads responsibility across staff in every city department, has led to confusion and avoidable mistakes that have cost the city tens of thousands of dollars in litigation. Creating a single point of contact for the public would enhance access and ensure all requests are properly managed.
