Notes

Hi there, my name is Mike Roman. I have been a paramedic in the San Diego City system since 2005. Additionally, I have been in EMS in various capacities as a dispatcher and EMT in both Ventura and San Diego counties since 1994. I am 45 years old, married, with 3 children - 2 boys and a girl, ages 16, 12, and 8. My interest in peer support has increased throughout my years of service. As a paramedic with seniority, I have been in a position to mentor others in all areas including having heart-to-heart conversations with employees who have displayed having a heavy heart after incidents. I especially wanted to help others when I did a mental head count of Rural/Metro and AMR first responders in the San Diego region and realized that in the past 10-15 years we have had approximately 8-10 employees, that decided to take their own lives. With that realization, earlier this year I attended a couple key courses in learning about all aspects of suicide and individual crisis intervention and peer support. While my actual training could expand, I feel that my experience in everything that has to do with EMS can serve as a valuable asset to others in potential need. I feel that one of my biggest strengths is to actively listen. With great respect, it is my hope that I can continue to be here for others in a greater capacity when it comes to employee behavioral wellness. Thank you. Mike "ROMEE" Roman
