History of the Center

On Aug. 15, 1972, the Southern Area Committee approved plans for the Silver Wing Recreation Center site, which included a multipurpose field, a tot lot area, a basketball court and picnic areas. Construction began in January 1974. The building and park were dedicated on May 8, 1976, and the Otay Mesa Community Recreation Group was officially recognized on March 2, 1977. The park sign was dedicated on April 18, 1987.

Note: This is not the park with the big silver aircraft wing monument. That park is Montgomery-Waller Community Park.
