SAN DIEGO – Mayor Todd Gloria has issued the following statement regarding his proposal to lease a commercial property in Middletown and transform it into a shelter and services campus, known as Hope @ Vine:

“In discussions with the landlord following Monday’s City Council hearing, we respect the need for further work and review on the proposal. It’s in that spirit that we mutually agree that we should return this item to the City Council in September.

“In that time, we will continue to work with the City Attorney’s Office to address the feedback we’ve received from the City Council, as well as convene the working group to develop a design and preliminary operations plan.

“As Mayor, I am resolute in further expanding shelter because the status quo on our streets is unacceptable. In September, it is my hope the City Council will share the same goal.”
