SAN DIEGO Mayor Todd Gloria, the first elected LGBTQ Mayor of Americas eighth largest city, issued the following statement today after the U.S. House of Representatives voted to pass the Equality Act:

Today marks a historic step forward for the civil rights of LGBTQ+people in this country and brings us one step closer to actualizing true equality in our nation.The Equality Act codifies long overdue protections to members of the LGBTQ+ community and sendsa very clear message:no one should experience discrimination because of who they are or who they love.I urge the Senate to expeditiously pass this critically important legislation.
