San Diego Unveils New and Improved Interactive Project Finder Map

project finder map that highlights the work being done around san diego

The City of San Diego has developed a new interactive Project Finder Map that uses Google Maps and GIS technology to allow the public to find details and location information on hundreds of construction projects and events citywide. Replacing the previous Project Finder, this new, more engaging platform offers users improved design, functionality and notifications.

“This new Project Finder Map developed by the City's Transportation Department greatly improves on the previous platform and makes it easier for San Diegans to learn about and plan for impactful projects and events near them,” said Chelsea Klaseus, Deputy Director for Transportation. “It is a great tool to keep San Diegans informed and engaged with their City.”

This Project Finder Map boasts new features that allow users to designate an area, community or neighborhood in the City and sign up for email alerts specific to projects in that area. It provides a Google satellite images layer and shows real-time traffic updates for construction impacts and special events.

Users can look up projects and events around the City by location and time range and can also select filters to specify the type of projects most relevant to them. Map features also allow individuals to look up various projects, both in construction and preconstruction phases, such as road resurfacing, pipeline replacement, electrical work and building projects. Special events like festivals, parades, sports and music concerts are also highlighted. While users can filter to see certain types of permits issued, private development projects are not included.

As with all construction activities and events, start and end dates are subject to change based on scheduling and environmental factors and will be updated on the map to reflect any changes.

Project Finder was launched this month following two years of development to improve the user experience and incorporate new innovations in technology. To experience the new map, visit sandiego.gov/projectfinder.
