Mountain Lion Safety Tips

Mountain lions are a part of San Diego’s natural environment and may make their homes throughout the region. While mountain lion sightings are rare, some communities within the City of San Diego have reported mountain lion activity within residential neighborhoods.

In the event that you do come across a mountain lion, consider these tips to keep safe:

Stand tall and be assertive

Speak loudly, firmly and confidently

Never turn your back on a mountain lion

These actions are suggested so that a predatory response is not triggered in the mountain lion. If you flee, the cat may think you are prey.
