SAN DIEGO Today the U.S. Conference of Mayors announced the appointment of Mayor Todd Gloria as Vice-Chair for Border Policy of the United States Conference of Mayors Criminal and Social Justice Committee, chaired by Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot. In this role, Gloria will coordinate the Conferences efforts to highlight ongoing issues taking place on the border, as well as work with Congress and the Biden administration on federal policies and resources to help Americas border communities.

As Vice-Chair for Border Policy, my top priorities include promoting binational economic development, infrastructure investments to address border wait times, addressing long term solutions to pollution from the Tijuana River Valley, and working for improved immigration processes through comprehensive reform, said Mayor Todd Gloria. I am looking forward to working with my colleagues on these efforts, creating substantive improvements to our borders policies.

We are lucky to have San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria leading our border policy efforts at the Conference of Mayors because he brings firsthand understanding of the unique issues that border cities face.

About the U.S. Conference of Mayors

The United States Conference of Mayors is the official non-partisan organization of cities with populations of 30,000 or more. There are over 1,400 such cities in the country today. Each city is represented in the Conference by its chief elected official, the mayor. Conference members speak with a united voice on organizational policies and goals. Mayors contribute to the development of national urban policy by serving on one or more of the conferences standing committees.

About the Committee on Criminal and Social Justice

The U.S. Conference of Mayors Committee on Criminal and Social Justice has jurisdiction over a wide range of issues important to mayors and their cities. These include policing; reentry; the justice system; gun safety; terrorism prevention, preparedness and response; emergency management; and other public safety issues. They also include immigration and border policy; voting rights; civil and human rights; inclusion, compassion and equity; and other social justice issues. The Committee considers and adopts policy in these areas and discusses issues related to them in Conference meetings.
