SAN DIEGO Continuing his commitment to supporting children and families throughout the City of San Diego, Mayor Todd Gloria was joined by San Diego Unified School District Superintendent Lamont Jackson, nonprofit partners and community leaders at the Linda Vista Community Park for his annual back-to-school celebration for children and families.
As Mayor, I want to ensure our students are prepared to go back to school and have the resources they need to hit the ground running, said Mayor Todd Gloria. Our youth are a critical part of our city and investing in them today to help ensure their bright future is a key priority of my administration. Im grateful to all the partner organizations that helped make today possible.
The San Diego Seals lacrosse team provided 250 backpacks for students preparing for the school year. Students also received supplies to help set them up for success in digital learning, including headphones and padded Chromebook cases, along with basic supplies including notebooks, markers, binders and pencil pouches.
We all know the youth are the future of our city, and the San Diego Seals want to do everything we can to help support this amazing city we all call home, said Steve Govett, President of San Diego Seals. Huge thanks to Mayor Gloria for organizing this program and getting the Seals involved for the second year in a row. Seeing the excitement and smiles on the kids faces during this event is priceless.
Meet and greets, giveaways and interactive games were provided by the San Diego Loyal Soccer Club, San Diego Seals lacrosse team, San Diego Gulls ice hockey team, San Diego Padres baseball team, San Diego Wave FC soccer team, the City of San Diegos Parks and Recreation department and more. Other partner organizations include the San Diego Unified School District, Sharp Healthcare, University of San Diego, AT&T, San Diego Metropolitan Transit System, Toyota, Bayside Community Center, and Cox Communications.
Sharp Healthcare hosted health fair stations and a one-day clinic onsite to provide vaccinations to students.
SD Loyal are so appreciative for the opportunity to partner with Mayor Gloria and his office to help kids return to school with the necessary supplies, said Ricardo Campos, President of San Diego Loyal Soccer Club. It is so important for all students to start the school year off on a positive note, without having to worry about not having any essential items.
Being ready for school on the first day is an important step in closing student achievement gaps and Bayside Community Center is so proud to help Mayor Gloria get San Diego students ready to succeed, said Adam Osorio, Associate Director of Communications at Bayside Community Center.
