Think Blue Sponsored Storm Drain Stenciling Activity
Think Blue Sponsored Storm Drain Stenciling Activity
Join Think Blue and I Love A Clean San Diego as we paint and repaint our storm drain inlets to remind everyone that pollution that enters the storm drain ends up in our waterways, beaches and bays.
We invite you to join us in maintaining previous stencils and adding more stencils to drains around your neighborhood! OnStorm Drain Stenciling Day,volunteers across the county will venture out for a morning of environmental stewardship and action. I Love A Clean San Diego will once again host this day following a virtual format and coordinating that all involved are provided with the supplies and support needed to feel prepared to make an impact.
It is estimated that about 80% of the ocean pollutants found today are originating from inland sources, and we want to do what we can to combat this dangerous reality and its many implications. One way that we know that litter, bacteria, and other hazardous substances are being carried to our ocean is through storm drains, which are unfiltered, unlike the sewer system. For years, volunteers across San Diego County have helped us to educate others by stenciling messages above these drains to remind our community to divert waste from our watersheds.
