Jack Nicklaus, winner of the 1969 Andy Williams San Diego Open, received the Mayor's Trophy from Pete Wilson and Andy Williams. Nicklaus, nicknamed 'The Golden Bear', is widely regarded as the greatest professional golfer of all time, winning a total of 18 career major championships. Andy Williams hosted the PGA Tour golf tournament, then known as the 'Andy Williams San Diego Open', from 1968-1988 at Torrey Pines Golf Course in La Jolla, a 36-hole public facility owned by the City of San Diego.
