Performers in San Diego Junior Theatre's 1952 production of The Bartered Bride, a comic opera by the Czech composer Bedrich Smetana which premiered in Prague in 1866. Set in a small Bohemian village, it tells the story of how true love prevails over the efforts of ambitious parents and a scheming marriage broker. Established in 1948 in Balboa Park, San Diego Junior Theatre is the oldest youth theatre program in the United States, producing shows acted and crewed by children ages 8-18.
