Stormwater Guidelines
- Stormwater Standards Manual: Urban runoff discharged from municipal stormwater conveyance systems has been identified by local, regional and national research programs as one of the principal causes of water quality problems in most urban areas. The City's Stormwater Standards Manual provides information to applicants for projects processed through the Development Services Department (DSD)on how to comply with the permanent and construction stormwater quality requirements for new development projects in the City. This manual went into effect on Dec. 2, 2002, and was updated on Jan. 14, 2011, Jan. 20, 2012, Feb. 16, 2016, and Jan. 3, 2018.
- Stormwater Requirements Applicability Checklist: Use this checklist to determine your project's permanent and construction stormwater best management practice requirements. This form must be completed and submitted with the permit application.
- New Stormwater Permit Requirements: On May 8, 2013, the Regional Water Quality Control Board adopted Order No. R9-2013-0001, which renewed the municipal NPDES permit, and changed some of the requirements for water quality improvements and construction BMPs. These updated requirements are reflected in the February 2016 update of the Stormwater Standards Manual.
- Think Blue Program - Solution to Storm Drain Pollution: Includes City Clean Water Programs, Outreach Literature, Reports, Resources and Links, K-12 Curricula (Project SWELL) and other useful information.
- Fire Sprinkler Discharge Runoff: When it is infeasible to discharge non-emergency fire activities to the sanitary sewer, non-emergency fire flows are allowed to discharge to the storm drain by implementing a combination of best management practice (BMP) to prevent pollutants from entering the storm drain.
