Here's what you need to know about proposing artwork for City property and the public right-of-way
The City of San Diego requires that any artwork proposed for property owned by the City, under the jurisdiction of the City, or both, be reviewed by the Commission for Arts and Culture and approved by the City.
Donations to the Civic Art Collection serve to further enhance the collection’s mission to provide meaningful aesthetic and cultural experiences for San Diego’s residents and visitors. Department of Cultural Affairs staff manages the artwork acquisition process. Each potential art acquisition is evaluated through a public process to determine its relevance to the City's Civic Art Collection mission and scope.
To have an artwork considered for inclusion in the Civic Art Collection, potential donors should inquire by contacting the Department of Cultural Affairs: arts@sandiego.gov ; (619) 236-6800
Murals help make San Diego a more dynamic and creative city. Murals also improve the visual quality, design, and experience of public spaces. Department of Cultural Affairs staff manages the review and approval process for all proposals for murals on City property and the public right-of-way.
