The statue represents the subject of a book which captures the story of a shoemaker and an orphan girl in Yokohama, Japan, and a song that is one of the most famous songs in Japan. The song is called 'Akai Kutsu' (Red Shoes). This was presented to the Mayor by the Yokohama Red Shoes Delegation. (San Diego Sister City).
