This depicts the departure of the explorer Vasco da Gama to India in 1497 with his 3 ships: St. Gabriel, St. Raphael and s. Miguel). He sailed from Lisbon, Portugal, on July 8, 1497, rounded Africa's Cape of Good Hope on November 22, and reached Calicut, India, on May 20, 1498. Donor and occasion information were not provided to the City Clerk's office.
