Sweetgrass Braid, 18 inches long, produced by Native Scents of Taos, New Mexico. Sweetgrass grows along the marshy areas of the northern Rockies into Canada. Many people of North America consider Sweetgrass sacred for its ability to purify and protect. Often found in medicine bundles, the smoke from its leaves is used in ceremonies. This was donated by a Polynesian Group in 1996; occasion information was not provided to the City Clerk's office.
