Wooden plaque, 9 x 12, with USMC and Montford Point Marine Assn's insignias and a K-Bar Model knife attached. The knife is engraved with 'Mayor Bob Filner, Semper Fidelis, Montford Point Marine Assn., Inc, San Diego Chapter 12'. MPMA is a non-profit military veteran's organization, founded to memorialize the legacy of the first African Americans to serve in the Marines. Nearly 20,000 men trained at Montford Point, a separate boot camp for black Marines near Camp Lejeune, N.C., between 1942 and 1949.
