Lucite paperweight, 3 x 3-3/4 inches, in the shape of a hard hat with an embedded miniature gold shovel commemorating the groundbreaking ceremony for NextLevel Systems on January 21, 1997. General Instrument Corporation broke ground on a new office complex to house the company's NextLevel Satellite Data Networks Group. The ceremony took place at their 35-acre site in Sorrento Mesa. The first shovels of dirt were lifted by a group of local business leaders and Mayor Golding. Donated by Ninteman Construction Co.
