A black plastic plate reads: 'December 1, 1979, The Groundbreaking of the 'New' Old Globe Theatre of The Edison Centre for the Performing Arts, Made Possible Through the Efforts of Mayor Pete Wilson, City Of San Diego'. In March 1978, the original Old Globe Theatre was destroyed in an arson fire. Reconstruction began in December 1979. Donated by the Old Globe Theatre to commemorate the groundbreaking ceremony.
