13-inch round Kamakura-Bori wall hanging with brown with dark orange flowers. Kamakura-Bori is a form of lacquerware from Kamakura, Japan. It is made by carving patterns in wood, then lacquering it with layers of colors, then polished. The genre dates to the Kamakura period, when a sculptor specializing in Buddhist images, began carving implements in the manner that Chin Na-kei (or Chin Wa-kei) had introduced from Song Dynasty China. This was donated by San Diego's Sister City, Yokohama, Japan.
