At this week’s committee meetings, Councilmembers will discuss the Commission on Police Practices, a new contract with an ambulance service provider and information on potential federal stimulus. There will be no City Council Meeting held on Tuesday Feb. 18, but committees will meet.
Public Safety and Livable Neighborhoods (PS & LN) Committee Meeting– Feb. 10, 2021 - 9am
District 4 Councilmember Monica Montgomery-Steppe chairs the PS & LN Committee Meeting with some high profile items:
Consideration of Policy Issues Related to the Implementation of the Commission on Police Practices (Item 2) - On November 3, 2020, City of San Diego voters approved Measure B to establish the Commission on Police Practices and amend the City Charter. The Commission is established as an investigatory body of the City independent of the Mayor and the Police Department. The committee members will discuss policy matters related to implementing the commission.
Approval of Contract with Falck Mobile Health Corp for Emergency Ambulance Service (Item 1) - San Diego Fire-Rescue requests that the City Council approve a contract with Falk Mobile Health Corp. (Falck). The company was selected as the successful contractor through a competitive process. Falck operates ambulance services in 16 countries.
Two other items will be heard in the meeting covering Information on a Homeland Security’s Urban Area Security Initiative and the Committee Work Plan
Economic Development and Intergovernmental Relations (ED & IR) Committee Meeting - Feb. 10, 2021 - 2pm
District 7 Councilmember Raul Campillo chairs the ED & IR Committee Meeting which will hear the latest on the prospects of Federal Stimulus, among other items.
Federal Stimulus Update (Item 5) - This is an informational item but a matter of great interest for many people. Government Affairs staff and representatives will provide an update on federal legislative issues and City advocacy objectives. There will be a focus on COVID-19 response and recovery.
Corporate Partnership Agreement with Cal Coast Credit Union (Item 2) - Corporate Partnerships and Development (CPD) is proposes that the City enter a Corporate Partnership Agreement with Cal Coast Credit Union as the “Official Financial Services Partner”. This partnership is expected to provide $875,000 in revenue and $2,475,000 in in-kind services during the five-year contract.
The Committee will also discuss a Relocation Plan for two residents in an East Village apartment building, a report by the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation on Anchor Institutions and the ED & IR Committee work plan for the year.
