Public Safety Committee members will consider an increase in fees for defendants ordered to complete sex trafficking education.  They will also get an update on Falck Emergency Health Services and efforts by San Diego Fire-Rescue to take some of the company’s contracted responsibilities.

Consent Agenda


Item 1 - First Amendment to Contract with Mallory Safety and Supply, LLC – On February 28,2022, the City of San Diego entered into a contract with Mallory Safety and Supply for the purchase of safety equipment, personal protective equipment and safety supplies. The current not-to-exceed amount of the contract is $3,000,000. The Fire-Rescue Department seeks to amend the contract with Mallory Safety and Supply to increase the not-to-exceed amount by $3,000,000 for a total not-to-exceed amount of $6,000,000.

Item 2 - Changes to the City Attorney's Sex Trafficking Education and Prevention Program (STEPP), formerly known as the Prostitution Impact Panel (PIP) - The City Attorney’s Office is requesting to increase the penalty fee paid by defendants ordered to complete the Sex Trafficking Education and Prevention Program, formerly known as the Prostitution Impact Panel. STEPP is a diversion program created, offered, and run by the City Attorney’s Office. The increase of the penalty fee is consistent with the state average of similar programs and will assist the City Attorney’s Office in expanding the program and providing additional services to survivors.

FalckItem 3 - Falck Mobile Health Corp. Contract Update – Fire Rescue is working with Falck toward an amendment which allows the City to assume provider responsibilities and provide continuity in public safety. Fire Rescue will provide an update on the progress and the final amendment will be presented to City Council for consideration next month. Fire Rescue will continue to monitor Falck’s performance while working with Falck to provide the highest level of service to our communities and visitors


 


 


DOJ


Item 4 - United States Department of Justice: Informational Presentation on Fentanyl – This item is an informational presentation by representatives from the US DOJ on the Fentanyl Crisis. The presentation will provide an overview of the fentanyl crisis from a federal law enforcement perspective. The presentation will also cover Southwest border seizures, local overdose statistics, the federal law enforcement response, and information regarding the Fentanyl Abatement and Suppression Team (FAST). US DOJ representatives will also describe a new federal intelligence-driven task force designed to interrupt the fentanyl supply by targeting the most problematic fentanyl traffickers preying on the community.


 


 


Item 5 - Information Update on Fentanyl – This informative presentation will highlight the current Fentanyl related crime trends and statistics within the City of San Diego. It will also provide an overview of the San Diego Police Department’s enforcement efforts in response to the Fentanyl related crime in the City of San Diego.


 


Item 6 - Public Safety Committee Work Plan for Calendar Year 2023 – This item is an opportunity for Committee Members and the public to review the Public Safety Committee Work Plan for Calendar Year 2023.
