The City of San Diego is pleased to provide a series of free informational presentations for City-serviced residents about the Organic Waste Recycling program and the new green bin and collection schedule. Please note that these are informational presentations only, and not where residents pick up green bins or kitchen pails.
These presentations are offered as virtual Zoom webinars or in-person workshops at select locations. In-person workshops will offer free compost for your garden and other giveaways. City-serviced residents are encouraged to register after they have received their official notifications from the City that their home will be receiving a green bin.

Backyard Composting Workshop
10:30am - 12:30pm, Logan Heights Library
Join this free 2-hour workshop presented by our partner, Solana Center for Environmental Education, at the Logan Heights Library to learn the basics of traditional backyard composting. Using trial-tested advice and hands-on demonstrations, the experienced Solana Center educators will teach you all you need to know to get started with a bin that fits your needs and lifestyle. Master Composter Course
9:30am - 12:30pm, Tecolote Nature Center
Become an expert in composting, meet new people and participate in interesting events, all while serving your community. The Master Composter course provides training in the art and science of composting, soil management and how to teach it to others. Certification requires attendance once a week at the five-week course and completion of 30 hours of community outreach. People of all ages and abilities are encouraged to apply. A $25 materials fee* will be collected upon registration. Register here.
