San Diego Project Heart Beat's (SDPHB's) mission is to save lives by placing Automated External Defibrillator (AED) devices throughout San Diego County and to provide CPR/AED education and cardiac arrest awareness.

The goal of San Diego Project Heart Beat Public Access Defibrillation (PAD) Programs is to improve the survivability of Sudden Cardiac Arrest victims by making Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs) as accessible as fire extinguishers in public and private places.

Ken's Story

In September of 2010 my wife and I were playing tennis with our friends. During the match, I collapsed, and our friends ran over to see what happened. Our friend remembered that there was an AED in the clubhouse. Even though they had no medical training, our friends were moved to act. They opened the AED and it talked them through using it. I was shocked twice and had a viable rhythm by the time the paramedics arrived. I was taken to the nearest hospital and survived.

Once home, we learned that a lady named Bobbi Cohen had donated that AED through an organization called San Diego Project Heart Beat. Bobbi’s husband had died at her daughter’s wedding when he had a cardiac arrest, and no AEDs were available. She set on a mission to turn a tragedy into a positive thing. Lucky for me!  After a few days at home, we knocked on Bobbi’s door to bring her flowers. She was overjoyed to know my story. She showed me Stu’s (her husband) picture and said Stu you did good. Through many laughs and tears we have become good friends and Bobbi has become an important part of our family. She is a shining example of making the world a better place. It was all made possible through Project Heart Beat.
