ATTACHMENT: San Diego Housing Commission Request for Qualifications

SAN DIEGO Mayor Todd Gloria issued the following statement today after the San Diego Housing Commission released a request for qualifications (RFQ) for nonprofit organizations to provide the supportive services necessary for the successful operation of Project Roomkey.

Yesterdays tragic loss of life demonstrates why we have to use every tool at our disposal to help connect San Diegans experiencing homelessness to housing and supportive services.

I want to thank the San Diego Housing Commission for their quick follow through on my request last week that they identify service providers to support non-congregate shelter programs like Project Roomkey. This will allow us to take advantage of the opportunity the Biden Administration has provided by making such programs reimbursable.

I also want to thank City Councilmember Sean Elo-Rivera for his passionate advocacy and partnership in this effort.

We must not let this chance to bring vulnerable residents in off the streets slip away.

Project Roomkey is a state initiative that provides hotel rooms and other non-congregate shelters for Californians experiencing homelessness who have either contracted or are at risk of the COVID-19 virus. The federal government has made programs like this FEMA-reimbursable.

The San Diego Housing Commissions request for qualificationswillidentify regional capacity to provide the vital support services that people experiencing homelessness need to be successful if providedsafe shelter inhotel rooms.
