Western Metal Supply Building

1968 photo of the Western Metal Supply Company building on the corner of 8th Avenue and L Street, now part of Petco Park Stadium. Designed in 1909 by respected architect Henry Lord Gay, it was declared a historic landmark in 1978, which prevented its demolition and delayed construction of Petco in 2000. After negotiations with the preservation community, it was agreed to rehabilitate the building and include it in the stadium design as an example of adaptive reuse.
