1934 aerial view of the Natural History Museum. The large tree to the right of the museum is the historic Moreton Bay FIg Tree (ficus macrophylla). Like most of the other large trees in the Prado area of Balboa Park, the tree was planted in preparation for the 1915 exposition. It is listed in the California Registry of Big Trees. Ficus macrophylla is a native of east Australia. When it is grown in an open area where it can spread, the Moreton Bay FIg Tree may become as much as 150 feet wide. (Photo by Erickson)
