Dark brown stoneware vase with a light green glaze splotched over the top, 3-1/2 inches tall and 2-3/4 inches in diameter. Ikebana is from the Japanese ikeru (keep alive, arrange flowers, living) and hana (flower). Translations include giving life to flowers and arranging flowers. The history of Ikebana dates back approximately 500 years to Ikenobo, the oldest school of Ikebana. This was donated by Sadako Oehler, Professor of Ikenobo Ikebana and President of the Ikenobo Society of San Diego.
