Two 1-1/2 inch medallions. One side reads 'Montford Point Marine Association', and Working Together Works', '1942 - 1949'. The other side has an image of six men, their names and reads 'The First Six Black Drill Instructors, United States Marine Corps'. MPMA is a non-profit military veteran's organization, founded to memorialize the legacy of the first African Americans to serve in the Marines. Nearly 20,000 men trained at Montford Point, a separate boot camp for black Marines near Camp Lejeune, N.C., between 1942 and 1949.
