Wooden 6 x 8-inch plaque awarded to Mayor O'Connor by the San Diego Democratic Club in 1991 for her recognition and support of the gay and lesbian community. The award is named for Dr. A. Brad Truax, who led San Diego's fight against AIDS while waging his own personal battle with the disease. He was the first chairman of the San Diego County Regional AIDS Task Force and emerged as a spokesman for laws protecting AIDS patients from discrimination. He died in 1988.
