Facilities Services Division
This division, comprised of the six sections below, provides day-to-day maintenance and repair, modernization, and improvement services including, emergency repairs, deferred maintenance, and tenant improvements to more than 1,600 citywide facilities. Deferred maintenance work includes re-roofing, replacing heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems, electrical repairs and conducting structural repairs. Facilities Services is comprised of six main sections: Administration, Work Control, Maintenance and Operations, Custodial Support, Contraction Section and Outstation Maintenance.
Administration Section
The Administration Section oversees all aspects of the division's budget, including maintenance statistics, facilities-related Capital Improvements Program, accounts payable, processing purchase requisitions, payroll, information technology and revenue recovery.
Work Control Section
Commonly known by City staff as the "Facility Trouble Desk," this section receives internal facility maintenance work requests. The section then prioritizes each request and assigns personnel and other resources required to complete the work.
Maintenance and Operations Section
This section conducts preventive maintenance and repair of City facilities and equipment. To ensure that City facilities remain safe and operationally sound, this section employs a variety of skilled trades, including carpenters, electricians, locksmiths, refrigeration mechanics and heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) technicians, painters, plumbers and construction estimators.
Contracts Section
In addition to in-house City personnel, the section works with specialty contractors to perform maintenance, repairs and improvements on various building systems, including conveyance (elevators and escalators) and fire-alarm and fire-protection systems.
Custodial Support Section
This section provides custodial services to the City Administration Building, the City Operations Building and the San Diego Central Library @ Joan Λ Irwin Jacobs Common.
Outstation Maintenance
The Outstation Maintenance Section is dedicated to the four specialized departments with unique maintenance needs. These are the Police Department, Fire-Rescue Department, Library Department and the Public Utilities Department.
