The Connected Voces campaign objective is to address the public health crisis created by the COVID-19 pandemic and how it has affected the mental health of youths throughout San Diego County, specifically in the lowest quartile California Healthy Places Index communities in Vista, Fallbrook, and San Diego’s Encanto and City Heights. Through three twelve-week production cycles, student participants from the targeted communities are paid a stipend to participate and produce film ad media projects (documentaries, podcasts, animations, etc.) addressing public health, with a focus on evaluating mental health trends in youths in a post-COVID-19 landscape and the resources available to them in their communities. Each short documentary will highlight a mental health trend and feature interviews with resource providers. Participants are encouraged to critically evaluate healthcare access inequalities in their community critically, providing a platform to inspire them to serve their community in artistic ways.
