The campaign objective of the VIVA Maze Civic Engagement Arts Project is to create awareness of the importance of civic engagement, including voting, through a civic participatory incorporating various methods of art and performance art to reach the community in a unique and engaging format. The components of a performative traveling maze draw on the community to be engaged to understand the importance of voting and civic engagement. Within the installation, a series of activities focus on lessons of civic engagement and performances, such as a theater presentation in which actors will play out historical figures and dates related to civic engagement and its importance and art displays by local students. Additionally,  murals are strategically located in campaign areas to promote civic engagement and tie in with the visit of the maze to targeted communities. Working in the communities of Brawley, Calexico, El Centro, Westmorland, Calipatria, Niland, Heber, and Holtville, the campaign intent is to highlight the importance of civic engagement, and how voting is essential to communities to reach its potential that is inclusive of all communities within the county.
