The Dignity in Play campaign involves creating a deck of playing cards called The Dignity Deck, representing the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). The card deck consists of visual representations of the thirty UDHR articles and informational cards with suggested uses and games. The card deck will be a game and learning tool to help more people become aware of their rights and freedoms and find tangible ways to embody and assert their dignity. In collaboration with Alliance San Diego and local artists, Garcia will develop and distribute the deck to youth and families, emerging community leaders, educators, and organizers. Each of the thirty articles will represent a word or phrase and image. Images will highlight the work of local artists and incorporate different forms of art, including drawing, painting, animation, sculpture, still images from performance and dance, and photography. Additional cards in the deck will include the UDHR preamble, connections with personal dignity and shared rights, contemplation cards that pose questions and ways of thinking and feeling about dignity, action cards that provide avenues of supporting individual and collective rights, and card game ideas. Through expanding UDHR awareness and dialogue, this campaign focuses on community and civic engagement and social justice.
