Old Town San Diego Day of the Dead Celebration

The Day of the Dead is Old Town San Diego’s Día de los Muertos, the place to celebrate the lives of loved ones that have passed on but return to be remembered on this important holiday. The celebration is held the weekend before the actual date of November 1st and 2nd. This event is a celebration of the history, culture, and heritage of the region that honors one of its most important holidays. Painted faces, a traditional mercado, music, food, games, and spirits are what make this celebration a happy, festive, very artistic, and visually stimulating enjoyable. event for the entire family.

Location: The Event takes place in Old Town San Diego. It will start at Twiggs Street and fill San Diego Avenue just past Conde Street. People stroll the street shopping at various vendor booths and viewing one of the main features, the Altars that are at most locations. There are booths that provide interactive activities such as painting and making of sugar skulls, people get their faces painted which is a tradition of this event. There are food vendors to compliment the many restaurants in the area. Booths line the streets but allow plenty of room for people to stroll.
