The annual Dia de Los Muertos will be celebrated in Old Town on Saturday, November 2 and Sunda, November 3, 2024. This free event, San Diego's most popular, will include a lively street market during the day as well as the traditional candlelight procession starting at sundown, beginning in front of the Immaculate Conception Church, located at San Diego Avenue and Twiggs Street. The procession will travel down San Diego Avenue to El Campo Santo Cemetery.
Many restaurants, businesses, museums, and shops will be creating traditional and contemporary Dia de los Muertos ofrendas (altars). Unique ofrendas will honor historic Old Town figures, as well as more current stories. A public ofrenda will be set up in El Campo Santo where visitors are encouraged to add their own mementos, photos, and written tributes to loved ones.
Location: The Procession will begin in front of the Immaculate Conception Church, located at San Diego Avenue and Twiggs Street. The procession will travel down San Diego Avenue for three blocks to El Campo Santo Cemetery.
A portion of the street market will be located on Harney Street between Congress St and San Diego Ave (already permitted). The remainder of the street market will be located on Twiggs St between Congress St and San Diego Ave.
