Economic Development

Volunteer Opportunities

The Economic Development Department currently has three active Advisory Boards: the Small Business Advisory Board (SBAB), the Consolidated Plan Advisory Board (CPAB), and the Airports Advisory Committee (AAC). All City of San Diego Advisory Boards are managed by the Office of Boards and Commissions (OBC). Advisory Boards are comprised of volunteers that assist the City in recommendations and other policy related issues. All three Advisory Boards are recommended by the Mayor's Office and confirmed by a City Council member. To see a list of current vacancies, please visit the OBC page for more information.

Small Business Advisory Board (SBAB)

The SBAB serves in an advisory capacity to the Mayor and City Council on matters relating to the small business community.

Consolidated Plan Advisory Board (CPAB)

The CPAB provides recommendations on policy issues related primarily with the CDBG program, one of the City's federal entitlement grants.

Airport Advisory Committee

The AAC provides the Mayor and City Council with advice on general aviation issues related to City owned operated airports.

In addition to the three Advisory Boards, the Economic Development Department has additional volunteer/internships opportunities including:

The San Diego Revolving Loan Fund Advisory Board (SDRLF Advisory Board): The SDRLF Advisory Board lends expertise on business financing and advises staff on business loan applications for the San Diego Regional Revolving Loan Fund. Unlike most City Boards and Commissions, members are appointed by the Board, and meetings are not public due to the sensitive financial information. The Board is required to provide annual financial disclosures to the City and must comply with the City's Conflict of Interest rules

The Board currently has no vacancies at this time. For more information about the SDRLF, please contact Lisa Lind at llind@sandiego.gov

Internships with Employ & Empower Program: The City's Employ & empower internship Program provides paid opportunities for interns to gain valuable experience working on some of San Diego's most important needs. It is designed to employ and empower the next generation of public servants at the City.

Current vacancies at all City departments, including Economic Development, will be posted on the Employ & Empower Application Page.
